Students can achieve almost a semester’s worth of credit by touring Italy from end to end.This is possible through the NE Campus photography program’s study abroad opportunities this summer.“It is life-changing,” said Patricia Richards, photography associate professor and adviser on these trips.
An exhibition of work done by participants in last summer’s study abroad program will hang in College Hall and throughout the hallways of the photography department in the Communication Arts Building. The exhibition titled Personal Visions runs through Dec. 3 and features work done in Spain, Morocco, Italy and France.
“I think it’s awesome,” said Alex Short, a student who went to Italy last summer. “People see my vision and perhaps they will want to go [as well].”
The photography program has four trips lined up as of now. A trip to Portugal this spring break has already filled, but one can still be put on a wait list to take the spot of anyone who may cancel.
Students can still sign up and earn four total credit hours, three hours of photography and one hour of Spanish, on a trip to southern Spain May 12-30.
At the opening of the first summer session, May 30-June 14, students can see southern Italy and Rome while gaining three hours in Photography II, Photo Digital Imaging II or Portfolio Development.
An excursion through Tuscany June 14-28 will offer three credit hours of Art Appreciation and three credit hours of Environmental Biology.
“Students will have the chance to examine the same topic from both ends of the spectrum,” Richards said.
Photography instructional aide and two-time participant in the study abroad program Paul Leicht said the trip is an adventure.
“It’s interesting to interact with the students outside of school, seeing them react outside of their comfort zone,” he said.
