The holidays will commence with music and tradition at the NE Campus Christmas choir concert Yuletide Carols 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at First United Methodist Church of Hurst.

The NE Collegiate Chorale, Chamber Singers and Community Choir will perform Christmas classics such as “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Little Drummer Boy and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

“We have really great music this semester and really nice movement through the pieces,” said NE choir student Hannah Bridges, who is in the Collegiate Chorale and has been a choir student for three semesters.

Bridges said she is most excited about performing “Estampie Natalis,” a rhythmic Latin piece celebrating the birth of Christ. Bobbie Douglass, NE choral director, said a cello and some percussion instruments will accompany the choir in the piece.

“I’m excited we’ll have some of our own musicians to accompany the choir,” she said.

It is the first time “Estampie Natalis” will be featured at this event.

The 90-minute performance will end with the “Hallelujah” chorus performed by all three choirs.

“This is a very powerful choral piece,” Douglass said.

The concert is free and open to the public.
