Students received advice on transferring to a four-year college Nov. 17 on South Campus.
Monica Miranda, South’s career and employment services coordinator, and Texas Wesleyan University career counselors Nancy Turner and Ashley Shetter helped students tackle the sometimes-difficult task.
The informal presentation was open to multiple questions. Several students had questions about degree plans and ways to pick a career after finishing their major.
“It is very common for students to pursue a career that is completely unrelated to their major,” Miranda said.
Nancy Turner laughed when sharing her own college-to-career path.
“I majored in [human resources], and now I’m a career counselor,” she said.
Some students wanted to know how to choose a major.
“Your selection of a major should be based simply on your own curiosity,” Miranda said.
Students also asked about some of the determining factors in choosing one campus over another. Miranda said several factors should be looked at, including financial aid, cost of classes, location and courses offered.
Miranda said the TCC counseling staff is always open to students looking for advice and guidance.
“Don’t come during registration!” she said laughing.
She said registration times are always busy because of the large number of students seeking counseling advice.
