Fifty-two pieces of wax art decorate the walls of SE Campus.
Encaustics and Techniques features artwork by 20 artists from the local group Texas WAX/Dallas.
SE art instructor Brett Dyer is among the 20 artists whose artwork is displayed.
“Encaustic is the ancient process of painting with melted beeswax and pigment, which is the style we use to create the artwork,” he said.
One of Dyer’s pieces of wax art is a self-portrait. It looks as though it were painted rather than made out of wax.
“The inspiration or desire to create also comes from inside of one’s soul,” he said. “Being creative is something innate. Teaching and creating art are equally rewarding.”
SE art major Juston Williams thinks the wax art will make other art students more confident in doing it themselves.
“It’s a very simple art technique,” he said. “The wax dries quickly so you can develop how you want the wax to look. The wax gives it an antique look.”
SE student Jonathan Dillon said he liked the wax art.
“It makes me curious to where I would want to learn how to do it myself,” he said.
The exhibit will remain in Art Corridor II through Oct. 8. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday
