The physical education departments on all five campuses are preparing for another season of intramural sports with a variety of games from the usual flag football and table tennis to alternative sports such as disc golf and ultimate Frisbee.

Registration is currently open for fall sports, and interested individuals should contact the HPE departments on their campuses for more information.

To participate, athletes are required to attend mandatory meetings before the games begin.

Students should watch for the posting of meeting dates on their campuses.

The campus intramural sports are open to all students currently enrolled in class. Staff and faculty are also eligible to participate. Students need to have a current class schedule and an ID when registering.

NE Campus will start its NE Wellness Games Sept. 11. All Wellness activities will be 12:45 p.m. in the NHPE gym. NE will hold its first ultimate Frisbee game 12:45 p.m. Sept. 25. Entries are due by 12:30 p.m.

To celebrate Halloween, NE Campus on will have a costume dodgeball game in the NHPE gym Oct. 30. Participants can dress in their favorite Halloween costumes and be pummeled for fun.

NW Campus will hold a two-day, 5-on-5 flag football tournament 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 15-17.

“It will be a double-elimination tournament,” said Josh Tarbay, NW assistant professor of HPE. “Registration and sign-ups for both individual players and full teams have already begun.”

Aside from football, soccer and racquetball, South Campus will host a one-day bowling tournament at Don Carter’s Cityview Lanes in southwest Fort Worth Sept. 26. The time has yet to be announced, but students must attend a mandatory meeting at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 in the SHPE gym to enter.

SE Campus plans to have a disc golf game in the late fall on a course to be built on campus. Disc golf is similar to regular golf, except instead of a ball, players will try to land a flying disc into an elevated metal basket with the fewest number of strokes. The golf disc is thrown from a tee to a target.

Beginning its inaugural season, Trinity River Campus has plans to form intramural teams but has yet to confirm its schedule. Jason Wooten, HPE assistant professor on TR Campus, expects the schedule to be confirmed by the end of September.

Flag football will begin play in September and end with the district championship. The winning teams from each campus will compete for a district title and bragging rights.
