SE Campus English instructor Gregory Bade has his NASCAR photos hanging in Art Corridor III.
He used his love of photography and NASCAR and turned it into Afternoon Thunder, photos that Bade took at Texas Motor Speedway, a track in Memphis and a road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y.
“I’ve been taking photos for 25 years, but I’m still a little green to NASCAR photography, so it’s great I’m getting recognition,” he said.
One of Bade’s most eye-opening photos called Hustle shows a close-up of how NASCAR mechanics have to quickly tune up a car to get it back in the race.
Bade explains how he can get so close to the action.
“I’m associated with Toyota Racing Department, so I have extreme access at these events, which allows me to go places most people can only dream of,” he said.
“It is my hope that this display will give you an inside look at some of the elements of a race you never thought about.”
SE student Joanna McCoy visited the exhibit after class.
“The photography is amazing,” she said. “I learned some things that I would never see on SportsCenter.”
Another SE student, Arturo Gonzalez, wondered if one of the photos would look good as his screen saver.
“I would like to have some of these pictures for myself,” he said.
Afternoon Thunder will be on display until Sept. 24.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
