NE Campus students who find themselves running late or walking back to their cars through rain might be interested in Phi Tau Chapter’s parking spot raffle.
The winner of the raffle will receive any parking space, excluding handicap spaces, for the entire spring 2010 semester. The raffle tickets sell for $2 each, and the winner will be drawn at Phi Theta Kappa’s induction ceremony Nov. 20.
Cesar Martinez said the raffle is a good idea because he is constantly getting to school earlier just to get a good parking spot. He said that having the assurance of a certain spot would make his day go by less stressfully.
“It would definitely give me another incentive to come here,” he said.
James McKinney, a music student and a TCC Bookstore staff member, said the reserved parking spot would definitely be something he would want.
“It’s always a long walk, and I have to haul a guitar,” he said. “This morning, I had a guitar, coffee, a backpack, a bag of clothes and an umbrella. On top of it all, it was raining.”
Faculty members who arrive late in the morning or late in the afternoon might have problems finding parking spots, but those who get here in the morning say that they have no trouble at all.
Biology instructor Kari Eamma said she normally arrives early and has no trouble finding a spot, but she feels bad for her students.
“A guaranteed parking spot would be good for a student,” she said. “If any of my students get here after 9, they have trouble finding spots.”
The raffle will help Phi Tau raise funds for a trip to the PTK national conference in Florida, more scholarships and more programs for members, said Brandon Dacus, vice president of scholarship.
Tickets can be purchased at the PTK office (NSTU 1101) until Nov. 20. Ticket purchasers should include their name, phone number and e-mail address so they can be contacted in the event of winning.
