Gallery owner offers critique to NW artists

Visual art students can receive a critique by a gallery owner during Artslam on NW Campus.

Winter Rusiloski, associate professor of art, wanted to make a day that would prepare NW Campus art students for the graduate school experience.

“I wanted it to be a formal critique with one to three works per student with an audience watching while Bill Campbell critiques,” she said.

Campbell is the owner of William Campbell Contemporary Gallery of Fort Worth. Rusiloski asked Campbell to join the panel so students could hear a critique from someone other than their professors.

“It would be a hands-on critique from someone who works in a gallery setting,” Campbell said. “It’s for me to look at work and see if it could go to a higher level.”

Submissions are currently being accepted from visual art students, and the top eight to 10 students will be selected. Submission is open to all media and all students currently taking a NW art class or who have taken NW art classes in spring or summer 2009.

Along with the critique from Campbell, a faculty panel will offer advice. Some faculty panelists will include Rusiloski, art instructor Heidi Lingamfelper, art associate professor Tommy Fitzpatrick and art instructor Matt Clark.

Artslam will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 13 in WFAB 1148. Campbell will critique 10 a.m.-1 p.m. with lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The event is open to the public, and people can come and go throughout the day.
