TR students share Christmas hiccups

Trinity River students can submit their funny holiday stories for a chance to showcase their writing skills and win prizes.

The Trinity River Campus writing and learning center is sponsoring the TCC Writes Holiday Laugh-Off competition, said Steven LeMons, TRC writing and learning center coordinator.

“Holidays are presumed to be a fun time. A lot of families get together, and a lot of funny things can happen,” he said. “With all of the recent negative events, we hope to cheer people up a bit and look at something on the lighter side of life.”

To enter, students must currently attend TR Campus in good standing. Students can submit multiple entries, but only one will be selected.

Submissions must be 500 words or less, single-spaced and include the student’s name, active TCC e-mail address and a daytime phone number.

Submissions may include a picture, either using a JPEG file or embedding the picture within the document file.

Entries will be judged on humor, creativity, relation to the theme and grammar.

Profanity or explicit adult content will not be accepted.

All entries must be submitted via e-mail to tr.writes@tccd.edu, no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 30.

Winners will be notified by phone or e-mail on or before Dec. 8 and must show a valid I.D. to claim their prizes.

Judges will choose three winners. The first prize is a $50 gift card from the TCC Bookstore. Second prize is a meal for two at the Riverfront Café from ECI Catering and Events, and third prize is a TCC sweatshirt from the TCC Bookstore.
