NE Campus will hold its annual health fair in NSTU’s Center Corner on Oct. 9.
Medical professionals will provide free screenings for sexually transmitted infections, blood glucose, cholesterol and bone density as well as spinal, vision and fitness tests.
“There will be a lot of free giveaways, such as toothbrushes,” said Pat Marling, a registered nurse and NE health services coordinator.
Several vendors will offer information about their services during the fair. Marling said a vendor could be the local dentist, a TCC instructor or a student in the dental program.
TCC police will offer tips on safety and violence prevention, and other vendors include Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, the American Cancer Society, the National Bone Marrow Registry, the AIDS/Outreach Center, Mid-Cities Pregnancy Center and Sam’s Club Optical.
Carter BloodCare will have a bus next to the chessboard outside NSTU. The blood drive starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Possible donors must provide a photo I.D. and a list of all their medications. They also should eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids beforehand.

A mobile mammogram bus will be parked outside NSTU for free screenings 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Women must be age 35 or older to qualify for the testing. In addition, they should have no history of cancer or current symptoms of breast disease, not have implants, not have nursed an infant in the last six months and not had a mammogram in at least 12 months. A board-certified radiologist will read the mammogram films and send results to each client and a designated physician.

The NE health fair is open to the public from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and all services are free.
