Hearing students can enter the world of silence Oct. 17.

Through TR Campus’ program It’s a Deaf, Deaf World, students will walk in the world of the deaf as they tour a town designed to show what it would be like to live without sound.

The Idea Store will be transformed into a “town” with several participating programs. Featured will be a theater that will show films using subtitles instead of voices, a deaf church and a place for storytelling.

Interpreter and “travel adviser” Leslie Seggelink said the program will show hearing people what deaf people go through on a daily basis.

“The hearing will experience the unique world of deafness and become more culturally aware of people different from themselves,” Seggelink said. “If you get caught using your voice, you will take a trip to the local jail.”
