Shutdown could impact some current, future grants

A full week into the government shutdown, TCC students, faculty and staff haven’t felt many direct effects so far.

But the further along it goes, the chance becomes greater.

To this point, TCC’s grant-funded projects that have already been awarded are slightly impacted, said director of public relations and marketing Suzanne Cottraux.

“Already funded projects are impacted only by a reduction or absence of technical personnel to help us stay on track with the projects,” she said.

Funds that have been awarded to TCC but have not been disbursed could be impacted if the shutdown continues, she said.

“TCC’s upcoming reimbursements and drawdowns of already awarded funds may be impacted if the government doesn’t reopen within a few days or weeks,” she said.

All projects and grants that TCC has either submitted or plan to submit for review are currently on hold, she said.

“TCC’s new grant applications for federal funding cannot be submitted in some cases or processed and selected for awards in all cases if there are not government personnel to review them, select awardees and then notify us accordingly,” she said.

As for TCC veterans, educational funding and award processing will continue as normal. However, the VetSuccess on Campus program is currently suspended, according to the Veterans Field Guide to Government Shutdown issued by Veterans Affairs.
