Work by a TCC student photographer was selected to be presented to board and staff members at the recent Achieving the Dream D.R.E.A.M. 2012 National Conference in Dallas.

Brandon Tucker’s photo depicting a young boy looking at his reflection and seeing a man in academic regalia holding a sign reading “Dream Big” was selected from a pool of student submissions. He will receive a $500 commission for his work.

Brandon Tucker’s photo wowed contest judges and will be hung in the Achieving the Dream national headquarters.

Nicole Melander, chief technology officer for Achieving the Dream, had contacted staff members from both TCC and the Dallas County Community College District asking them to seek out students who would be willing to submit a piece for review.

“We were blown away by Brandon’s submission. It resonated with us immediately,” Melander said. “The design is inspirational and beautifully conceptualized, and we selected the piece right away before even viewing the remaining submissions.”

Two of Tucker’s five prints went to officers of the Lumina Foundation, one of the principal underwriters of Achieving the Dream.

The remaining prints were presented to Achieving the Dream staff members who, Melander said, were largely responsible for planning the conference.

Katie Loovis, chief operating officer for Achieving the Dream, has also requested a 24-inch-by-36-inch print to hang at Achieving the Dream headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.
