Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society will host the sixth annual Edgar Allan Poe-try Reading Contest and Book Drive on Halloween.
The contest will be held 2-3:30 p.m. in the SLIB Drake Study Break Café on South Campus.
All students are invited to take part in the competition. Partakers are asked to come in costume, bring a new or gently used children’s book for charity and be prepared to recite a spooky poem.
Students can choose any author or piece of poetry that shares the spirit of Halloween. Poetry does not need to be written by Poe. However, the subject matter should be macabre in nature and coincide with a performance Poe would be proud of, Sigma Kappa Delta advisers said.
Contributors are not required to memorize their selection although it is encouraged. Poems should be recited within two minutes and be appropriate for the community event.
Prizes will be awarded for the top three presentations. First place receives a $75 Visa gift card; second place, a $50 Visa gift card; and third place, a $25 Visa gift card.
Contestants can sign up in advance for the competition on the sheet posted at SFOA 1123. Contestants may also sign up for an open slot at the time of the event.
