Dancers raise funds for food

The NE Theatre Playhouse is preparing for time travel in the form of a high-energy, nonstop dance concert.

Movers Unlimited Dance Touring Company (NE Campus), Mosaic Dance Project (NW Campus), Rhapsody Movement Company (SE Campus) and TCC NE Dance Company will participate in the Dancing Through the Decades concert.

“Dance styles will include contemporary, ballet, jazz and hip-hop,” said Linda Quinn, NE dance professor.

The decades the dancers will represent range from the ’50s and ’60s, with artists like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, to the MTV era of the ’80s and ’90s.

The four dance companies will do a collaborative performance as well as individual performances.

“I want the audience to leave the concert feeling entertained, different emotions and maybe even moments/memories of nostalgia,” said Jamie Perrin, SE dance instructor.

She hopes the audience members will have happy memories as the dancers take them down memory lane.

The NE Dance Club is partnering with the NE Student Ambassadors to collect cans and raise money for the Tarrant Area Food Bank. The canned food drive ends Nov. 25.

“This is our third district dance concert,” Quinn said. “We always connect a community outreach fundraiser to each concert.”

The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 and is free for TCC students, faculty and staff. Tickets are $5 for the general public, and a portion of those proceeds will go to the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
