The biennial Honors Recital for NW Campus’ private music students will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 in the NW Recital Hall.
Top student performers are showcased during the recitals held at the end of the spring and fall semesters.
Director of music Richard Powell, who has taught at TCC for 31 years, will select students to perform through auditions.
“[The] auditions for the recital have not yet taken place, so the performers and their repertoire are as yet unknown,” he said.
Auditions will be held the week of Nov. 18, and 15-20 students are expected. From those auditions, 12 students will be chosen to perform in the recital.
“I feel the recital is significantly important as it gives private students a real goal to aim for in their studies,” he said.
Powell said the usual performances include classical or Broadway music.
NW music students have an advantage, Powell said.
“[The music program] is smaller than other campuses, but it allows more opportunity for individual attention in the learning process,” he said.
Seating for the free concert is on a first-come, first-served basis with a seating capacity of 80 people.
Those who attend will witness a semester’s worth of effort, Powell said.
“I hope the audience will leave with an appreciation of the hard work that these students and our faculty do to make them the best they can be,” he said.
