Giving is the name of the holiday season as TR and NE campuses plan to donate presents to less fortunate children of the Samaritan House and Salvation Army.
Through November and December, the Trinity River Equality in Education club’s Giving T.R.E.E. is across from the Main Street Café on TR Campus. The NE Angel Tree is located in the NSTU lobby.
The TR tree benefits Samaritan House, a shelter for individuals affected by HIV and AIDS and with other special needs.
“T.R.E.E. contacted the Samaritan House and asked if they needed help fulfilling the wish lists of the children that reside there,” T.R.E.E. chairwoman Cortney Walden said.
The NE Angel Tree is sponsored by the Salvation Army and targeted at children under the age of 15. More than 60 names were on the tree.
“The Angel Tree is an organization through the Salvation Army, and the organization has trees perhaps all over the world and has a huge national organization outreach,” administrative assistant Callie Sprabary said.
Last year, T.R.E.E. successfully purchased everything on the lists of 20 children.
“We witnessed the community here at TR come together and make the holidays for those 20 children one to remember,” Walden said.
This year, T.R.E.E. is accepting donations of socks, underwear and lightly used jackets as well as cash donations to purchase toys not sponsored by someone else.
Students, faculty and staff can take a child’s name and wish off the tree.
