The unemployed need no longer strain their eyes reading through tiny print or risk painful paper cuts thumbing through the classifieds for the latest job openings.

Through the convenience of modern technology and the DFW Job Center, a free job kiosk service is now available to all TCC students, and it is also open to the public.

The DFW Job Center is user friendly and is a touch-screen process,” LuAnn Krey, coordinator of NW career and employment services, said. “Job seekers can view, print and e-mail job descriptions plus apply for jobs at the touch of a finger.”

Already in use on South and SE campuses, the DFW Job Center recently expanded its service area, which now includes both NE and NW campuses.

SE Campus received 41,907 views as of November 2006 while NW had 261 in December.

“ A job seeker can maneuver around the screen at the touch of a finger to access various information,”

Darrell Whitsell, SE career planning specialist said. “And it sure beats having to read a newspaper.”

The kiosks’ features include job postings, job clip videos showing people at work and information on upcoming area career fairs.

Updated daily, users can get the latest employment information in the DFW area. Jobs can be searched by categories, such as retail, part-time temp, telemarketing or computer information technology professionals.

Jobs can also be searched by typing in a job title or scanning an alphabetical listing; jobs posted in red can be applied for through the kiosk.

“ Jobs posted on the kiosk are generated from the Dallas Morning News, which overlaps into Tarrant County,” Whitsell said. “Users can also print out job posting information as well which looks a lot like a receipt from a gasoline pump.”

Once fully operational on the NW and NE campuses, a career and employment services icon will feature campus services, job fairs and workshop information.

“ This is just a small benefit of the services we offer to students,” Krey said.

Current students can also access additional job listings and services by visiting a career center. A TCC ID is needed, but former students can access the services by bringing proof of prior enrollment.

The kiosk is in the Counseling and Technical Services building on NW Campus, in the Student Centers on NE and South campuses and outside the career center (ESEE 2103A) on SE Campus.
