For the first time since 1997, Plato’s Cave, a NW Campus student organization, is reopening its doors to philosophers.
   Started in 1994, Plato’s Cave is TCC’s version of a philosophers’ café.
   Dr. Tony Roberts, club adviser, said the organization is a safe place to meet and discuss ideas outside the philosophy classroom.
   The club will discuss philosophical messages in movies, books and music, as well as issues members are interested in. Discussion topics will usually be decided before the meeting and can change depending on the group’s interest.
   Everyone, including students, faculty, staff and guests, can join the club. No prior knowledge of philosophy is required, and members do not have to be enrolled in a philosophy course.
   Roberts said the focus of the group is to provide an atmosphere where students can have open dialogue and to develop better thinkers and facilitators of thought.
   Each meeting will have a student facilitator, who will keep the meeting on track and ensure an equal opportunity for all participants to speak. The facilitator position will rotate among members, so each person has a chance to lead the group.
   Plato’s Cave will meet every other Friday at 12:30 p.m. in the WSTU Cafeteria. The next meeting is Feb. 10.
