NW starts English society

Sigma Kappa Delta, the English honor society for two-year colleges inaugurated the Psi Gamma chapter on NW Campus Feb. 16.

The society provides students with scholarships, academic contacts, academic activities, conferences and publications that pertain to excellence, said Dixel Rodriguez, associate professor of English.

Founding members Briana Bacon, Dominique Gannoe, Madeline Esparza, April Klein, Heatherly Meek, Yolanda Montoya, Raquel Morehead, Vatana Thepbouri and Gustaf Young were inducted at the inaugural ceremony. SKD sponsors are Rodriguez and LeeAnn Olivier, English instructor.

Students who have completed at least one college course in English language or literature, have completed at least 12 semester hours, have a grade point average of at least 3.3 and no grade lower than a B in English are encouraged to apply for membership.

Applications are available from Olivier in WTLO 4314A or Rodriguez in WTLO 4320A.

The group is under the umbrella of Sigma Tau Delta, but SKD membership does not guarantee membership at a four-year institution.
