SE speaker to examine discipline similarities

A professor of piano will express the similarities of music and architecture during Architecture Is Frozen Music: Music Is Liquid Architecture Wednesday, Feb. 28, on SE Campus.

Gustavo Romero, associate professor of music at the University of North Texas, will perform on the piano at the performance 7-8:30 p.m. in the Roberson Theater. Admission is free.

Romero will show how the principles of harmony, symmetry, rhythm, scale, repetition, proportion, hierarchy and transformation can be found in both music and architecture.

A graduate of the Julliard School, Romero has performed around the world and has focused on the works of Chopin, Bach, Beethoven and Mozart.

Critics have praised his interpretive mastery of piano literature, according to a review in The Washington Post.

The artist’s numerous prizes over the years include the First Prize in the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in 1989.

The architectural technology program and student activities on SE Campus are sponsoring Romero’s performance, which will be followed by a question-and-answer period.

A reception will follow the event in the Main Commons.
