Representatives of student organizations and of more than 25 universities will participate in South Campus’ annual College Day, Jan. 24.
The fair will showcase local and state four-year universities, including TCU, UTA, Texas Southern University and A&M Prairie View where students can transfer after TCC.
Because college transfer is the next step for many students, the fair will provide them with needed information, Zeb Strong, South Campus student activities director, said.
The event will allow students to “visit with college representatives in person instead of through a Web site,” he said.
Students can ask questions and discuss their concerns about transferring.
Additionally, student organizations will be present to discuss their clubs, get students involved and recruit members.
Participating organizations include Latino Student Union, Culture in Action and Phi Theta Kappa.
“There is a level of apathy,” Strong said, when it comes to student involvement on campus.
Strong said he recognizes that most students do not know about upcoming campus events and do not know about organizations.
“This is a great opportunity for students to learn about student organizations at South Campus that can benefit their growth as a person,” he said.
Although the fair is directed toward TCC students, it is open to the entire community, Sandra Johnson, transfer counselor, said.
“We want the community to view our vision with these universities,” she said.
Tomorrow’s fair will be 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the SSTU cafeteria.
