CD Review-DeVotchKa: A Mad and Faithful Telling

DeVotchKa A Mad and Faithful Telling (4.5 stars)
page16-5Fans of Clockwork Orange know where DeVotchKa got its name, but where it got the eclectic sound found in its new album, A Mad and Faithful Telling, is another story.

The band ventures into classical, Mexican, gypsy, carnival, Eastern European and almost every musical genre outside the norm.

The singer warbles bizarre lyrics that are strangely affecting and never over-the-top or pretentious.

DeVotchKa’s newest album shows how far the group is willing to go and how much it pays off.

A Mad and Faithful Telling is a refreshing album worth a chance.
