For each of the last eight years, NW Campus students have participated in the Cowtown Marathon under the direction of instructor Keith Applewhite.
The marathon is an annual event that generally attracts more than 10 thousand people.
“ It’s a way of encouraging people to be active,” he said.
This year, approximately 20 NW Campus students participated in either the 5K or 10K run, a figure that has Applewhite encouraged for the future.
Applewhite hopes the Cowtown race can become an annual team event for years to come.
This year was special, Applewhite said, because of the death of Dick Hakes, retired NW Campus professor.
T-shirts were made in his honor with the inscription “whatever it takes” on the back—something Hakes always said.
Applewhite is also attempting to create an annual run in Hakes’ honor.
