Students and faculty were treated to a recital of flute music performed by Erich Tucker, TCC adjunct professor of music, Nov. 21 on South Campus.
Tucker was joined by TCC adjunct professors Iryna Simoneaux and Hsinyi Wang, TCC graduate Carla White and local musicians Jennifer Hunter and Clara Loy. Patrons were greeted with holiday flute duets from South Campus students Stacey Lumsden and Brittany Harris.
Tucker, who has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and Central America, played compositions ranging from master composers J.S. Bach, Mozart and Haydn to contemporary composers Georges Hue and Alan Ridout.
Especially entertaining was “Lughnasah,” composed by Montana native Rhonda Larson. The performers dressed in butterfly wings, deer costumes and wigs and accompanied Tucker with percussion instruments. White told the audience Lughnasah is an Irish festival of abundance signifying the end of summer and the beginning of harvest.
Lauren Applegate, 13, a student from Prairie Vista Middle School in Saginaw, said she likes taking flute lessons from Tucker.
“ He is really nice and fun,” she said. “He’ll teach you whatever you want and always does his best for you.”
Tucker, who has taught at TCC for five years, hoped his students learned something from the recital.
“ All of my students are wonderful,” he said. “I want them to have a lifetime of learning and loving music.”
