True TCC Experience

By Teri Ragone/reporter

From personal experience, I know how helpful and hardworking the DSS office personnel are. I have a short-term memory problem and cannot learn algebra, which I need to graduate.

I had aneurism surgery on the right side of my brain and right optic nerve in 1996. One of the side effects is the memory problem.

After speaking with the South Campus DSS staff, I talked with my doctor here in Texas and wrote to my neurologist in New York. With the doctors’ letters and the attention to the problem the DSS gave me, I was granted a waiver that will allow me to take a logic course this semester and graduate in May.

Receiving an associate degree is one of the goals on my list. Being published is another. My plan to graduate became a reality because of the help I received from DSS.

I learned it is never too late to attain goals.

I am still working on them at 73.
