Pride Week Calendar

Oct. 3, 6, 15 Students can learn how to be an advocate for members of the LGBTQ community. Participants will become familiar with language, resources and culture. Oct. 6 We Are One will host Ally Day 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in front of the bookstore on NW Campus to take pledges from students who support the LGBTQ community and are advocates of equality. For more information, email evan.patton@tccd.edu.

Oct. 6 TR drama students will honor Matthew Shepard 1-2 p.m. in the Riverfront Café on TR Campus. Shepard was a university student who was beaten, tortured and later died in 1998 because he was gay. The drama students will read poetry from October Mourning by Leslea Newman. Light refreshments will be served. Oct. 7 We Are One will host a gay history presentation 2-3 p.m. in WSTU 1305 on NW Campus, featuring guest speaker David Mack Henderson from Fairness Fort Worth. For more information, email evan.patton@tccd.edu.

Oct. 7 Students can sign up to be an ally of the LGBTQ community 10 a.m.-noon on TRTR Main Street on TR Campus. Oct. 8 We Are One, Lyft and the Rainbow Lounge will sponsor a screening of the documentary Raid of the Rainbow Lounge 6-9 p.m. in WSTU 1303-1305 on NW Campus. A Q&A with filmmaker Robert L. Camina will take place afterward. For more information, email evan.patton@tccd.edu.

Oct. 8 Red paper will cover the hallways of TRTR Main Street 11 a.m.-noon. A presentation will be given about HIV awareness, gift cards will be given away and free HIV testing will be available across from the Riverfront Café on TR Campus. Red attire is encouraged. Oct. 9 We Are One and Kristina Starr will host a drag show 6-9 p.m. in WSTU 1303-1305. The show will feature local professional performers as well as volunteer student performers. Those interested in performing can submit music and costume selections for approval to stephen.swartzendruber@my.tccd.edu.

Oct. 9 Students can have their bodies traced, cut out and then decorate those cutouts 11 a.m.-noon across from the bookstore on TRTR Main Street on TR Campus. The decorated cutouts will be hung all along TRTR Main Street with the hands positioned to look like they’re being held. Oct. 10 Students can participate in a pride parade 11 a.m.-1 p.m. that will begin by Student Life, march down TRTR Main Street and end at the Idea Store.
