Banker to aid NE students in financial literacy

As part of the TCC Student Success Seminar Series, student activities will host a financial literacy session Oct. 27.

Kayla Houston, a banker at Branch Banking and Trust Co., will discuss how to handle money.

Houston said she hopes students will learn “how to avoid stereotypical college banking mistakes.”

A former TCC student, Houston said she gained an understanding of how to handle money while growing up with an investment banker mother.

Although the seminar is aimed at students, Houston said many post-college adults come to her with little understanding of how to manage their money.

“It’s scary — not just as a banker, but as a person,” she said.

Houston has been working as a banker at Branch Banking and Trust for a year.

Cara Walker, NE student activities coordinator, said student success seminars are designed to enrich students exposure to many fields of study.

Walker said seminar topics are chosen based on what “students really need to know and won’t be taught in a classroom.”

Where Is Your Money Going? will be 12:30 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) on NE Campus.
