NE students picked up tips for studying more effectively, restoring their GPAs, transferring coursework and making good use of campus resources during Get Back on Track and Finish the Race March 28.
NE transfer center coordinator Vanessa Ximenez gave tips and insight into transferring coursework and doing it efficiently, including how retaking a class to fix a grade might not always solve the problem.
“Here at TCC, if there are two grades that show up for a certain class, and you failed said class but passed it the second time, we will take the higher grade,” she said. “However, I have seen some colleges and universities that average out the two grades.”
Academic adviser Carey Miller and student accessibility resources coordinator Kim Eason covered different styles of learning, in particular, visual, auditory and kinesthetic.
The pair explained the differences between each type of learning and offered strategies for different types of learners.
“For visual learners, there are diagrams, charts and many other visual representations of information,” Miller said. “For auditory learners, you can create songs, use discussions or audio lectures. In addition, there are even audiobooks. Kinesthetic learners can use labs and practice tests.”
NE counselor Mesika Smith spoke about the various resources available to students. For example, TCC offers faculty-led tutoring, student accessibility resources, student clubs and more.
