Former NASA astronaut to speak on 4 campuses

Leroy Chiao will share his unique experiences as a Chinese-American astronaut with TCC students on March 24 and 25.

A veteran of four space missions, Chiao has logged more than 229 days in space and has worked with Russian, Japanese, European and Canadian astronauts and their affiliated space agencies. He currently serves on the NASA Advisory Council.

“I was invited to come and share my perspective on the importance of multiculturalism against the backdrop of my spaceflight experiences,” Chiao said.

In this shrinking world, opportunities grow and flourish for students and professionals who understand the advantages of multicultural teams and realize the importance of taking a global view, he said.

Chiao will present Success in Multicultural Space on four TCC campuses. On March 24, he comes to NW Campus at 9:30 a.m. in WSTU 1303-1305, to TR Campus at 1 p.m. in the Energy Room (TRTR 4008) and to SE Campus at 4 p.m. in the ESEC Ballroom. On March 25, he will speak on NE Campus at 9 a.m. in NSTU Center Corner.

“It’s a unique perspective of an important topic for all of us,” Chiao said. “I am presenting it several times to reach as many students as possible in the TCC system.”
