Calvin Hopkins, former NW Campus horticulture assistant, was indicted Feb. 18 on a third-degree felony marijuana possession charge.
Wise County District Attorney Greg Lowery said Hopkins was indicted on a charge that he possessed more than five but less than 50 pounds of marijuana. Hopkins could face two to 10 years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
The indictment charge is less severe than he originally received when he was arrested in August at his Indian Springs Ranch near Cottondale. Then, he was charged with possessing 50 to 2,000 pounds of marijuana.
Placed at first on paid leave after the arrest, Hopkins was put on unpaid leave after his vacation days ran out, said vice chancellor of adminstration Bill Lace.
Hopkins’ arraignment will be within the next 30 days, Lowery said.
When The Collegian sought comment, Hopkins’ home number was disconnected.
