SE will offer plenty of intramural sports for students to look forward to this semester.

Along with the usual basketball and soccer leagues, new competitions like sand volleyball will debut this semester.

Intramural sports director Danny Aguirre keyed in on what’s to come.

An obstacle course will be held at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the sand volleyball court located on the southwest corner of the building.

A variety of hurdles, tire pulls, jump ropes and more will be included in the contest to test students’ endurance.

Dodgeball debuted last semester with eight teams. Aguirre is looking to double that”number after last fall’s positive turnout.

The competition will be April 4 in the gym.

Three-on-three basketball competitions will be held starting Feb. 26.

After spring break, intramural soccer, closest-to-the-pin golf, disc golf, sand volleyball and swimming will begin.

Sand volleyball is new to SE as student requests were fulfilled.

TCC provided new nets and poles for the one-day competition coming in April.

Aguirre’s goal for the students is to “maintain happiness” and look to intramurals as a “stress reliever.”

Aguirre feels optimistic that intramural participation will grow as a result of the 26 percent overall enrollment increase from the 2008-2009 to the 2009-2010 school year.

Winners of the competitions are awarded along with their pictures taken and displayed in the SE gym lobby.
