The NE Speech and Debate Club won several awards over spring break at the Phi Roe Pi regional tournament. Elizabeth Price won second place in dramatic interpretation and third place in poetry interpretation. Ashley Borck won fourth place in informative speaking. Oladipo Oyediran placed third in prose interpretation. Rachael Jensen won fourth place in prose interpretation, and Courtney Stewart received sixth place in prose interpretation.
Billy Hayes, adjunct instructor of graphic communications on NE Campus, was featured in Naïve: Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design, published by Gestalten. Hayes said the book featured modern artists doing 1940s- and ’50s-inspired graphic design. Hayes said his work in the book is a graphic design called vector art. April 7 South Campus health services will sponsor a health fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Student Center first-floor hall, lobby and cafeteria. Students, employees and the public can gather information on organizations and health issues and participate in screenings such as blood sugar, blood pressure and weight. A marrow donor registry will run 9 a.m.-3 p.m. outside SSTU 1102. A Carter BloodCare mobile unit will be on the north patio 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for a blood drive. In addition, the AIDS Outreach Center will conduct free, confidential HIV testing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in SSTU Bluebonnet Room.

April 7 The South Campus health and physical education department, student activities and Community Outreach will sponsor Spring 2 Spring, 2 Mile Walk-Run 2:30 p.m. on South Campus. Check-in begins at 2 p.m. in the SHPE gymnasium. All entry requirements benefit the American Red Cross with a $5 minimum donation (checks only) payable to American Red Cross.
April 7 The NW Campus Health Fair will provide students with free blood pressure and cholesterol screening as well as information from more than 25 vendors on everything related to health including Children’s Health Insurance program, the Lupus Foundation, organ donation and massage therapy. The fair will run 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in WSTU 1303/05. Students can schedule a mammogram with the Harris Methodist mobile unit 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the driveway that leads from the parking lot to the WFAB building. April 13-14 NE Campus will hold an International Festival with several cultural speakers and entertainment presentations 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday in NSTU Center Corner and the Library. At 9:30 Tuesday, an opening ceremony dance performance with dance professor Linda Quinn is scheduled in NSTU Center Corner. At 8 p.m., an information session about belly dancing will be followed by a performance. All events Wednesday will take place outside by the chessboard and will include Taste of Cultures of the World 10-11 a.m. and a Chinese lion and dragon dance 1:30-2 p.m. Art exhibits in the Library, Student Center and Center Corner will be viewable both days. Student activities will furnish free hot dogs Wednesday, starting at noon, during the International Fashion Show near the chessboard. April 27 Deadline for TCC students who want to compete in the district speech contest to register through their speech teachers. Students must be enrolled in either Fundamentals of Speech Communications (SPCH 1311) or Public Speaking (SPCH 1315). Participants are allowed to use a speech prepared for class. The competition will be 1-6 p.m. April 30. Students will need only one speech for the three-round competition.
