Celebrating Strides to teach, inspire

The African-American Heritage Celebrating Strides will conclude Black History Month events for TCC Feb. 27 in the Action Suite (TRTR 4202) on TR Campus.

This inaugural district event is designed to celebrate the challenges and achievements of African-Americans throughout history, said TR writing and learning center coordinator Steven LeMons.

“It should be very informative, educational and inspirational,” he said.

Attendees can view a multimedia art exhibit by local artist Letitia Huckaby and a brief history of Fort Worth by the Multicultural Museum.

Along with performances by the Fort Worth Jubilee Theatre and the Community Christian Church of Fort Worth, TCC students and faculty as well as members of the community will give presentations.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. with the program starting at 6:45 and ending at 9 p.m.

LeMons said he thinks the turnout for the event will be just as good as the program and hopes it will become an annual TCC event.

“I believe this will be a cultural experience that everyone of all ages can enjoy,” LeMons said.

The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

Those interested in attending may register online at http://tccdne.volunteerhub.com/ or contact LeMons at 817-515-1389.
