NW to recruit new members to sports, clubs

By Tabitha Redder/reporter

Lost students can find a group to call home with the annual NW Campus Clubfest Jan. 22-23.

NW student development services will host the annual event in the WTLO lobby for organizations to recruit members for the semester and to give curious students a chance to get involved with the school.

“Every club is represented,” student development associate Rachael McCloskey said. “Even intramural sports are included this semester.”

Popcorn and beverages will be provided by student development services 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. on both days of the fair.

Computer technician Juan Hernandez is starting a Zumba club this semester.

“I’ve always enjoyed dancing. I work up a real good sweat doing this,” he said of the fitness activity. “I’m hoping manning the table [at Clubfest] will draw some interest because it’s something brand new.”

NW student Karen Verastegui is looking forward to learning about the organizations on campus.

“I want to get involved, but I want to know if the club is boring or fun and how many people are in it,” she said.

Clubfest benefits organizations because enrollment and attendance usually spike after the fair.

“This year we’re going to be helping the other student organizations with the event,” Student Government Association secretary Michael Robertson said. “We will help them recruit members as well.”
