Steven Hagstrom and Jonathan Huggins walked away with top honors at the annual NE Campus racquetball tournament.

Held Oct. 19, the tourney saw 16 people participate, both young and old, and was divided into two groups.

“ We have several people from the senior racquetball class, as well as the other racquetball classes on campus,” Kim Kerby-Dickman, NE HPE instructor, said.

“ We had a large, diverse group, so we divided everybody into two different levels.”

The tournament was a round-robin affair played to a time limit of 7-10 minutes with the winners decided by total points.

The groups were divided by their skill levels with both a beginners winner and intermediate winner being named.

The winner for the beginners was Huggins, who accumulated 53 points in winning the bracket.

On the intermediate side, Hagstrom was the winner.

“ I’ve been interested in racquetball for 35 years,” he said. “My best friend played it and got me interested in it.”

Hagstrom racked up 73 points to win the intermediate skill side of the bracket.

“ The reason I came out today was to show everybody that geezers can still play,” he said.

Prizes awarded included cans of racquetballs, T-shirts, pens and water bottles.
