NW dancers invite students for holiday fun

Students and faculty are invited to boogie on down for a good cause on NW Campus.

The Monster Mash Dance-A-Thon will be 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the NW dance studio (WHPE 1103). The event is sponsored by the NW Dance Club, and costumes are encouraged.

NW associate professor of dance Amy Sleigh said the event will raise awareness and money for the children of the Assessment Center of Tarrant County as well as provide a needed break for TCC students and staff.

“The Assessment Center houses children ages 0-17 that are displaced from their home in need of safety and care,” she said. “With the money we raise, the members of the Dance Club purchase Christmas presents for each child and deliver them the last week of school. The students also stay to spend time and dance with the children for the afternoon.”

Sleigh said the dance-a-thon is now a tradition established by NE professor Linda Quinn, the founder of the TCC Dance Program.

“The dance studio is turned into a night club, and we boogie on down from the ’60s through today’s music,” she said. “The floor should have no more than 30 people and no less than 12. The more the merrier.”

The event will include a costume competition, and NW dance associate professor Lacreacia Sanders will teach “Thriller” at 1 p.m.

There is no admission price, but donations will be collected at the door. All proceeds benefit the Assessment Center.
