Hispanic Heritage Calendar

Now-Oct. 10 NW student services will hold a Hispanic Heritage Month photo contest. To enter Celebracion de Cultura, students should submit photo entries in WSTU 2811. Winners will be announced Oct. 13 at Lectura Latina.

Oct. 5, 12 Students can learn about their cultural heritage during Writing Your Heritage, two interactive workshops both at 1 p.m. in the SE library. During the first session, Dr. Juan Araujo, University of North Texas-Dallas assistant professor, will discuss the importance of passing one’s culture and heritage to the next generation through writing and help participants start to write. The second will focus on sharing the written pieces and peer evaluations.

Oct. 5 Abrazando al Exito features Edgar “Shoboy” Sotelo, host for CBS Radio’s Mega 107.5 in Dallas. The event is held 6-8:30 p.m. on TR Campus. Students from all campuses may register at tccd.volunteerhub.com.

Oct. 6 South history instructor Carlos Rovelo will discuss The History of Chocolate with a free chocolate tasting. The session is 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the SSTU Living Room on South Campus.

Oct. 12 NE will host its annual Fall Fiesta 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the courtyard by the chessboard. Local universities will offer information, and a job fair will have local vendors. The day includes a live DJ, dancers and free food and drinks.

Oct. 13 NW student services will present Lectura Latina 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Winners from Celebracion de Cultura will be announced. The location will be announced later.

Oct. 14 WFAA anchor Gloria Campos will speak at a leadership summit at 1 p.m. in Action A on TR Campus.

Oct. 14 SE Campus will hold Untold Stories — The Effects of War 11:45 a.m.-12:40 p.m. in the North Ballroom. Hispanic students and faculty will share their stories and thoughts about how war has changed their lives.
