Team 1 swept No Chill in a three-game series to become back-to-back champions in SE Campus’ volleyball tournament Nov. 6.

The tournament was single elimination with each match consisting of the best two out of three games. The games used rally scoring to 21 points with a two-point lead required to win. Games one and two were capped at 25 points, and game three was capped at 15. The time limit for each match was 45 minutes.

Team 1 showed why it was last year’s champions. The chemistry was evident, and each team member had a significant skill set. The team won all of its matches handily and was never forced to go to three games.

No Chill also put together an impressive stretch of wins without having to play in a game three. In its semifinal game against Team Nike, No Chill overcame a seven-point deficit to move on to the championship.

No Chill put up a good fight, but Team 1 refused to be outdone. It won the first game 21-16 and the second game 21-14. Team 1 member Thomas Do said he was glad to have such great teammates.

“I made way too many mistakes,” he said. “My team carried me to victory.”

The champions received Nike duffel bags, and all participants received T-shirts.

The gym was filled with students like Luis Garcia representing the Organization of Latin Americans who came to watch the tournament.

“I just wanted to cheer on some of my friends,” Garcia said. “I was also curious to see how volleyball is played.”

Event coordinator Shahzad Nazir said the turnout was great.

“We had a total of 10 teams that participated,” he said. “I’ll take that any day.”
