IRS-certified volunteers can help people with electronic filing. To have tax returns prepared, individuals need to bring a picture ID, Social Security card for themselves, their dependents or spouse or a Social Security number verification letter or individual taxpayer identification number assignment letter for them, also relevant documents for an ITIN, and financial records for the filing. Both spouses must be present to sign the required forms if they are filing taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return.
