Oct. 30 Students can shake, rattle and roll for a good cause at the Monster Mash Dance-A-Thon. The event is sponsored by the NW dance club and will be 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the dance studio (WHPE 1103) on NW Campus. Music ranging from the ’60s to today’s hits will be played, and “Thriller” will be taught by NW dance associate professor Lacreacia Sanders. Students can bring their best costume for the competition at 1 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door for the Tarrant County Children’s Assessment Center. Oct. 31 The NE Dance Club will host the Halloween Dance Party. The club will provide free “Thriller” and “Rocky Horror” dance lessons to all TCC students, faculty and staff, but donations will be accepted. Lessons are 10:10 a.m.-1:40 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the dance studio (NHPE 2127). All proceeds go to Dancers Responding to AIDS and will be given to the organization by the club on its next community service trip to New York. Oct. 24 Deadline for entering the NE Art Association’s zombie movie contest. Students are invited to submit movies three minutes or less. Students must pay a $10 entry fee for the contest, and the winning movie will receive half of all entry fees. The movies will be shown at a campus zombie party Oct. 29. Now-Nov. 2 Girls is on display in South Campus’ Carillon Gallery in the Rushing Performing Arts Center. The exhibit includes different art media from local and out-of-town artists. Oct. 25 Night of the Living Dead, the final installment of Fright Nights in the Library, will be shown at 6 p.m. in the SE Campus library. The creepy 1968 classic horror film directed by George A. Romero involves flesh-eating zombies and set many conventional zombie characteristics in film such as a shuffling walk. Popcorn and other refreshments will be provided.
Oct. 27-January 2013 Drawing Power: The Newton Collection of Original Editorial Cartoons will be on display at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The exhibit features 100 editorial cartoons that appeared in magazines and newspapers, some dating back to the 1930s. Being one of America’s largest collections, it includes works from Pulitzer Prize-winning U.S. and international cartoonists. The museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Nov. 5 In honor of Veterans Day, South Campus, KERA and the Fort Worth Opera will host a conversation: Glory Denied: Coming Home from Modern Conflict. A panel will discuss the differences between the soldiers of today and those of the Vietnam War.
