Cheesy Love Songs by The Lazy Eyes
Album – Ash Petrie
In 2021, everyone needed to find something joyful as COVID-19 was running ramped, and I found my peace through psychedelic sounds coming out of Australia.
The Lazy Eyes album “SongBook” had me pick up a bass to learn its groovy but heavy lines immediately after listening. Its upbeat-airy sounds make me feel like I’m lying in the sun, even on a cloudy day. When I put on the record today, it still gives me the same goosebumps I had the first time I listened to it.
So, of course, I freaked out when I saw a teaser track was released to promote their long-awaited album “Cheesy Love Songs.” While the single “The One Who Got Away” takes a more soft-rock approach than I like, I’m still waiting on the edge of my seat for the album to drop in August.
Supergirl
Movie – Dominic DePaule
I’m highly anticipating this as a continuation of James Gunn’s more human DCU after the brief scene from Superman. Based on an under-appreciated hero and even more under-appreciated source material. Directed by Craig Gillespie with lead actor Milly Alcock, I have total faith that they will bring this story to life. The film releases in theaters June 26.
FIFA World Cup 2026
Event – Guadalupe Ontiveros
Starting on June 11, the FIFA World Cup will kick off in full effect. I look forward to this tournament because it brings people from all over the world together.
Every four years, I have felt the atmosphere through the media, but this year it is going to be different. This will be the first time in my lifetime that the United States will host the World Cup.
There is a total of nine confirmed games that will be hosted by Dallas, the most for any host city in the tournament. Additionally, Houston will host seven matches. With so many fixtures happening close to me, I am excited to experience the ambiance the World Cup brings in person.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Movie – Jordan Hoyt
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” promises to be the biggest blockbuster of the year. Since
“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” I’ve loved Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. I’ve been the same age as Parker throughout Holland’s trilogy, so the films hold a special place in my heart.
I anticipate the new film will showcase the angst of navigating loneliness and major life changes that are unavoidable in your early twenties. This film is guaranteed to make me laugh and cry, which is just what I need this summer. The film will be released in theaters July 31.
Really Awaits by The Strokes
Album – Cara Coco
The wait is over, and “The Strokes” will be taking over the summer, breaking their seven-year hiatus June 26 with the new album “Reality Awaits.”
Indie musicians, wannabe hipsters and record store employees will probably fall to their knees with joy. I will be right alongside them.
“The Strokes” is a New York City 1990s indie rock band known for its energetic, old-school rock sound and catchy hits like “Last Nite” and “The Adults are Talking.”
Some of the song titles, such as “Dine N’ Dash,” “Going to Babble On” and “The Fruits of Conquest” are intriguing in how they each sound like titles from completely different kinds of albums. With all that said, who knows what this album has in store?
All I know is that if I want a “Reality Awaits” CD or vinyl, I better order it now.
The Odyssey
Movie – Matt Penrod
Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” will be released on July 17.
It stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca who embarks on a dangerous journey home after the Trojan War hoping to reunite with his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway. I’m excited about the star-studded cast, which also includes Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Mia Goth and Travis Scott.
If “The Odyssey” is on par with Nolan’s other films, it will be one of the year’s best.
The Devil Wears Prada 2
Movie – D’Myria Williams
I’ve been waiting for this movie the way some people wait for fashion week, patiently but with expectations set impossibly high.
In an era defined by digital influence and personal branding, the sequel feels not just relevant, but necessary. If it delivers the same sharp dialogue and iconic energy that made the first film unforgettable, it won’t just meet expectations, it will redefine them. Either way, I’ll be watching. Closely.
Outlaw Music Festival
Event – Kelly Amtower
The eleventh annual Outlaw Music Festival tour begins July 3, 2026, at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving, TX. Country music legend and festival headliner Willie Nelson will be joined by Sheryl Crow and many others. The Outlaw Music Festival is family friendly and promises to offer a full day of live Americana music, food trucks, vendors and dancing.
At 92, Willie Nelson still loves the road but is driving a little slower. Nelson is sure to draw diverse audiences drawn to his unique storytelling style that has captivated listeners for generations. I cannot wait to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity to see Willie Nelson and friends grace the stage this summer.
Mayfest
Event – Ryleigh Roper
Mayfest is back from April 30-May 3.
Every year at Trinity Park near downtown Fort Worth, the city hosts a festival with live music, visual arts performances, nature education, carnival rides and more. The event offers something for everyone.
I went last year and my favorite part was an attraction where you could take a kayak on the water. It offered a peaceful experience just steps away from the fun chaos of carnival rides, really displaying a variety of things to do.
Michael
Movie – Lila Pedrosa
I’m a simple girl with simple needs: matcha, shopping at Brandy Melville and music. With Michael coming out on the 24th of April, I know it will be a challenge not to get up from my seat to sing and dance.
The movie is about Michael Jackson’s life, played by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson. I’m super excited to see it because he’s one of my favorite singers. With “Loving you,” “The Girl is Mine” and “Lady In my Life” being one of favorite songs of all time, I’m looking forward to what else I will hear in theatres when it comes out.
Evil Dead Burn
Movie – Kiarah Smith
I first stumbled onto “The Evil Dead” trilogy thirteen years ago during a late-night binge. These are the movies responsible for converting me into an easily scared fan of horror movies. After seeing the latest installment, “Evil Dead Rise” in theaters three times the opening week, I’m certain “Evil Dead Burn” will not disappoint this summer.
