Leticia Gallegos has been named director of the new Weekend College on Trinity River Campus. Gallegos becomes the district’s first campus administrator of Weekend College, which allows students to earn an associate degree by taking classes entirely over the weekend. Gallegos, who earned her master’s in professional development at Amberton University, formerly worked at the University of North Texas, where she earned a bachelor’s in speech communications.
NE respiratory care students Tiffany Arnspiger, Michael Gray, Victoria Bendio and Pamela Parrot won third place at the American Association for Respiratory Care National Knowledge Bowl, held in San Antonio in December.
Haley Hodges, Dallas Kaemmerling and Ami McClure have been selected as members of the Two-Year College All-State Choir. The NE Campus students will perform with the choir at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention Feb. 10-13 in San Antonio.

Feb. 10 NE Campus health services will sponsor a blood drive and marrow donor sign-up in the chessboard area 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and in the NTAB lobby 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Photo IDs are required to give blood. Feb. 10 NE Campus health services will sponsor Heart Healthy Lunch 12:30-1:30 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Speaker Sreenivas Gudimetla, Tarrant County American Heart Association board of directors president, will discuss cardiac risk factors and ways to prevent heart disease. Free lunch will include Mediterranean-style chicken breast, whole-wheat pasta Caprese, Caesar salad and bread sticks. Because seating is limited, reservations are required. Feb. 10 Students can learn to handle their multiple obligations at Stress Management noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102 on TR Campus. The workshop will offer techniques to manage stress and tips for destressing a busy college life. The free seminar is open to all students.
Feb. 10 NE Campus career and employment services will hold The Green Collar Jobs, an information session, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in NSTU 1625A. The open house gives information about the growing “green” industry and the jobs continuously becoming available. Handouts and brochures will be about new technologies that conserve energy and help recycle goods will be distributed.
Feb. 10-11 NE Campus student activities and natural sciences will sponsor two presentations of Genetics Symposium in NSTU Center Corner. The first, for students only, is 6-7:20 p.m. Feb. 10. Speaker Sam Rhine, director of the Genetics Education Center, will discuss stem cell research, types of stem cells, gene control and cloning. A 9 a.m.-1 p.m. workshop Feb. 11 is open to the public.
Feb. 11 TR Campus will provide Business Etiquette noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102. The seminar will cover more than behavior and will help students present a more poised and self-confident image when applying for jobs. The free seminar is open to all students.

Feb. 12 NE Campus Phi Theta Kappa will sponsor a Valentine’s Ball 7-10 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. The event will include food, dancing and a professional DJ who will provide music and a light show. Tickets are available for $6 a person or $10 a couple. The money will benefit Phi Theta Kappa’s Phi Tau chapter, Women in New Roles and the American Cancer Society. Tickets can be purchased at the door or 2-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in NSTU 1101A.
Feb. 12 Women can ask men to join them at the NW Campus Sadie Hawkins Day Dance and Ballroom Dance-Off 7:30-10 p.m. in the Ballroom (WSTU 1303). The evening will include a raffle, auction, performances, casino and awards. Singles are $7 and couples are $10. Profits will benefit Home for the Troops.

Feb. 13 The Women in New Roles Network will welcome Judith Dillard, community advocate and member of the mayor’s advisory commission for homelessness. Dillard will present The Incredible Journey; Homeless to College 12:15-2 p.m. in Billy Miner’s Group Room in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square. The only cost is for lunch.

Feb. 15 In honor of President’s Day, SE Campus will have a display representing all 44 U.S. presidents 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Bistro.
Feb. 15-16 Students can bring papers and projects that require accessing business databases available through the TCCD online library to the Business Research Workshop hosted by the Walsh Library on NW Campus. Faculty are welcome to attend the sessions: 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m.-noon Tuesday. Workshops will be tailored to participants’ needs and questions.
Feb. 16 To help the overachiever, Trinity River counselors will hold Test Anxiety workshop. Students will be given the tips and techniques to help them get organized and be better prepared on the day of the test. The free event will be noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102.
Feb. 16 The How To Take a Test and Pass seminar will take place 12:30-1:30 p.m. in SSTU Forum Room on South Campus. Some of the points covered will include what students should do before, during and after a test. The goal of the seminar is to help students comprehend information the best way possible. South counselor Annie Dobbins will facilitate the seminar.

Feb. 16 Tarrant County Republicans and Democrats will converge on NW Campus to debate their parties’ gubernatorial candidates in the upcoming primaries. Students can also get information about the importance of primaries, candidates running for local offices, volunteer opportunities in parties and campaigns and more. Hosted by the NW government department and Students for Law and Politics, the event will be held at 11 a.m. in the WACB Michael Saenz Conference Room. Students can bring questions to ask.
Feb. 16 Steven Chamblee of Weatherford’s Chandor Gardens will present Texas Trees: May the Forest Be with You 10-11:30 a.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. in North Ballroom on SE Campus. The free event is open to the public.
Feb. 17 Chris Carcerano, coordinator for the center of academic success, will facilitate How to Talk to Faculty and Others 12:30-2 p.m. in SACA 1120 on South Campus. The goal is to teach students not just to solve a conflict but to express classroom issues effectively by e-mail, by telephone and in person.
Feb. 17 The TR center for academic success presents Study Skills noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102. The workshop is designed to help students improve their learning, understanding and grades.
Feb. 18 NE Campus career and employment services will hold Writing the Employment References List, an information session, 10 a.m.-noon in the NSTU hall near the Bookstore. Representatives will provide information and discuss the best ways to write reference lists on job applications and resumes.
Feb. 18 Tracy Williams, NW coordinator of career and employment services, will present Four Steps to Choosing the Career That’s Right for You 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Feb. 18 NE Campus student activities and financial aid will hold Financial Aid 101 12:30-2 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Financial aid director Bill McMullen and administrative office assistant Trenton Price will discuss the basic knowledge every student should have about financial aid. Topics will include application instructions, available grants and loans, hurdles students might run into when trying to receive financial aid, the process, options students have and the difference between dependent and independent students. Lunch will be provided.
