Students to gain info on classes, services at expo

To better prepare students for college, NE Campus will host the Rock Your Future Expo Oct. 22.

Students can expect to learn about the programs and classes TCC offers, take advantage of on-campus registration, campus tours, guest speakers and on-site placement testing while enjoying free food, prizes, presentations and music, said Cheryl Hamilton, NE speech professor.

“Our whole goal is student success,” she said. “Anyway we can do that for our students, we will.”

More than 170 faculty members will volunteer at the expo. Students can browse through more than 40 organization tables, pick up pamphlets and ask questions.

“If you need information, this is the place to be,” Hamilton said.

Whether they know what they want to major in or are undecided, current students, prospective students and people wanting to continue their education will find something to fit their needs, Hamilton said. Registration and financial aid tables will provide answers to any questions students may have.

It will be the first expo of its kind at TCC, and if the college gets the expected turnout, it may become a permanent event hosted on each campus every year, NE learning center coordinator Anne Drake said.

“It will give students the opportunity before spring registration to come and talk to faculty and learn more about the courses they may need to register for,” she said.

Hamilton said she hopes more people will see TCC not as a second choice or last resort but as more of a steppingstone to better prepare students for the education ahead.

“Total saturation,” she said. “We want every campus involved.”

Hamilton said the information can be valuable to anyone who attends.

The Rock Your Future Expo starts at 10 a.m. in NSTU Center Corner.

“We’re excited about this event,” NE counselor Laurie Semple said. “It will be an awesome day for students.”
