Fall into Dance will feature NW Campus students from technique classes, the TCC Northwest Dance Company and the Mosaic Dance Project.
The informal concert is 1 p.m. Dec. 10 in WSTU 1303-1305 on NW Campus.
Fall into Dance is free, but donations are accepted.
“The proceeds go toward programs to promote dance students’ success and educational enrichment,” said associate professor of dance Kim Jackson.
The concert features ballroom, world dance, modern dance, ballet, hip-hop, musical theater/character and jazz dance forms.
Jackson’s world dance class will perform a piece featuring movement from authentic dances around the world, including West African, Latin, Soran Bushi (Japanese) and Tahitian dances.
“The students work very hard all semester,” Jackson said. “Some come from strong dance backgrounds, but many do not.
Despite their skill level, they all strive to achieve greatness appropriate to their own goals and aspirations, and the quality of their work is priceless.”
The performances are compilations of the work students have learned in their classes.
“The students have been preparing for this event all semester,” Jackson said.
Andrew Gern, who is a Modern II dance student, will participate in the informal concert.
“The piece we are performing is a little different,” he said. “It’s kind of an African-Irish fusion, which is unusual.”
NW dance student Jimmy Fauatea is in his first dance year at TCC.
“When I first started here, I wasn’t a very good dancer. I had no technique,” he said. “Hip-hop is my style. In the shows, they offer a lot of different styles of dance.”
