Survival week on TR Campus will give students tips for college success. Students can stop by the Discovery Center (TRTR 3102) to find out more about available tutoring services as well as basic tips in reading, writing, math and science.

TR Campus students, faculty and staff are invited to volunteer for the Botanical Research Institute of Texas service project 2-5 p.m. Sept. 20. Volunteers will work outdoors removing invasive plants from the native prairie as well as inside documenting plant specimens. Those wishing to participate can sign up at www.tccd.student-hub.com. The SE Campus library will host The Literature of Prescription: Charlotte Perkins Gilman and “The Yellow Wall-Paper.” Developed and produced by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, the traveling exhibit consists of six screens that will explore the 19th century feminist author’s semi-autobiography and her experiences after being prescribed the rest cure. Books on the subject will also be displayed.

The Bill of Rights exhibit is in the SE Campus library. The historical document, photographs and other constitutional amendments will be presented on 12 freestanding photomontage posters.

NW concludes its Student Success Conference 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Check-in and registration are in the WTLO lobby. TCC chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley is the keynote speaker.

A service fair by the TR Campus Community Partners will give students and community members a chance to observe the services available to them in the area. Student organizations as well as students from all campuses are encouraged to visit the TR Idea Store 7:30-11 a.m.

NE students can stop by career services for an open house information session, The Career Coach Connection, and learn to navigate Career Coach, TCC’s new web-based interface, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the career center (NSTU 1625A). NE Campus student development services presents Conflict Resolution 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615). Student support coordinator Kateeka J. Miller will discuss positive reactions and resolutions for dealing with conflict. The session will give students insight into how to effectively manage conflict in different situations. A Constitution Day exhibit will be on display in the South Campus library 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

South Campus will celebrate Constitution Day in the SSTU cafeteria. History and government instructor Carlos Rovelo will speak 12:30-1:30 p.m. about the phrase “We the people,” what it meant to the Founding Fathers and what it means to youth today. A video on the Constitution will also be shown. Popcorn, cookies and other refreshments will be available.

TR students can celebrate the 225th anniversary of the country’s governing document on Constitution Day 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on TRTR Main Street. TR will provide pocket Constitutions and games for students looking to increase their knowledge of our nation’s background.

NE students can celebrate Constitution Day 225th Anniversary, Longevity Secrets 12:30-1:30 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Representatives from the government and history departments will share secrets to the longevity of the U.S. Constitution.

The SE Campus will celebrate Constitution Day. On Monday, the library will have a display 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Students are invited to the library where they can observe Constitution Day and learn about the document’s founders. From 10:30-11:30 a.m., library and student activities staff members will ask students trivia questions about the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Participants will receive a cupcake. On Tuesday, Rick Yoes, campus electrician, will dress in colonial costume for a dramatic reading of the Bill of Rights followed by a John Lundberg, history instructor, presenting “Original Intent: Fact or Fiction.”

Employers on Campus, a NW Campus event 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the WTLO lobby, will give students an opportunity to network with employers and learn more about what types of jobs they are promoting. This venue will focus only on companies that have current job openings. Students are encouraged to dress professionally as they would for job interviews.

This week’s lunchtime workshop on TR noon-1 p.m. in the Discovery Center (TRTR 3102) focuses on student engagement with professors. Students can learn tips on approaching their instructors and learn how to make “student-professor” connections.

Studies show that 15-18 percent of the population is dealing with learning or attention disorders, so NE counselor Anita Peters will discuss a variety of these disorders and ways to help overcome them 2:30-3:30 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111) during What is a Learning Disorder?

A Service Learning Fair will be held 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 19 and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Commons on SE Campus. Students who would like to gain supplemental work experience to add to their résumés can speak with the various nonprofit agencies present. The NW Club Fest will be 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the WTLO Lobby. Students are invited to check out all NW clubs and organizations.
