CD Review-Josh Grider Sweet Road to Ride

By Shanda Block/reporter

Many genres can describe Josh Grider: soul, gospel, blues, rock and pop. He uses all these elements for the basic sound of his country music.

Grider’s new album, Sweet Road to Ride, released Oct. 6, expresses the roads people travel in life.

Bassist Chris Grady and drummer Jeff Botta help make the Josh Grider Trio. The three have evolved together over the past two albums, with Sweet Road to Ride being the third.

The title of the first song on the album, “Here With Me,” reveals the album’s theme. “My heart is for two things, my family and my music. The road divides it,” suggests that Grider is trying to decipher how to choose his priorities in life. Almost any listener can relate to such decisions.

“Great Divide,” this album’s first single, has Grider trying to pick a path between his mind and his heart.

In a basic overview of Sweet Road to Ride, Grider asks the audience to take a look at their own lives and relate to his lyrics, taking away from his songs what they need to make decisions in their lives.
