She doesn’t look like an accountant. He doesn’t look like a librarian.
These expressions, although stereotypical, reinforce the concept that certain occupations require certain personality or character traits.
One would not expect an extremely loud, boisterous person to be a librarian, or a disorganized one to be an account.
Dr. Shelly Cavin, NW campus counselor, will present Picking a Career That Matches Your Personality Tuesday, April 17, 12:30-1:30 p.m. in WCTS 1129B.
The workshop will help students find a career to complement them and provide them lifelong satisfaction.
Dr. C. Ricks Edmondson, NW campus director of counseling and testing, said participants will learn about their personality type using the Myers-Briggs type indicator.
Edmondson said Cavin also will explain the importance of selecting a career that matches one’s personality.
Participants will be asked questions about whether they are more energized by people and things or by the inner world of ideas or whether they like an organized, planned approach to life or a flexible, spontaneous life style.
By answering such questions, they will learn how awareness of personality preferences can help them pick a career that is best suited for them, Edmondson said.
