Students can enjoy a bit of the beach as SE Campus gears up for its annual sand volleyball tournament April 4.

The tournament will take place on the sand volleyball court outside of the gym.

“This is the third year we’ve held a tournament,” said SE physical education instructor Shahzad Nazir. “It’s one of our most popular sports.”

Students, faculty and staff are all invited to take part in the tournament, he said.

Registration will be held during the captain and free agent meeting that starts at 1 p.m. March 28 in the Cardio Room (ESEC 1511). Players must attend this meeting to participate.

“We usually get about the same number of teams as our indoor tournament in the fall,” Nazir said. “I’m expecting at least eight teams this year.”

Teams will compete in a match of three games.

While prizes are awarded to the winning teams, exercise and physical fitness promotion are the main goals of the tournament, he said.

Games begin at 1 p.m. and will run until 4 p.m. depending on the number of registered teams.
