Cheridan Kirkpatrick won first place for Song of the Year at the 45th Texas Junior College Student Government Association Conference that took place April 10-13.

April 23 An interdisciplinary Shakespeare Festival will be 11:15 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) on NE Campus. Activities will include music performed by NE music instructor Stan Paschal, a Shakespeare parody skit by drama students and presentations by NE English faculty. Dance professor Linda Quinn will teach audience members parts of dances performed in previous NE shows and explain how styles from Shakespeare’s era are brought into more modern times. Pizza and drinks will be available.

April 23 TR Campus health services will offer free and confidential HIV/AIDS screenings 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the health center (TREF 1312). Screenings are available to the public, but patients must be 18 or older.

April 23 A blood drive and bone marrow registry will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the SE North Ballroom and Commons. Those interested in donating must have no medical conditions, be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.

April 23 Congolese history will be discussed by Didier Gondola, chair and professor of history at Indianapolis University-Purdue University Indianapolis, as part of Congo Square to Congo Digital: Why Congo Matters 1-2:30 p.m. in the SE Judith J. Carrier Library.

April 23-26 Voting will be open to elect members to South’s Student Government Association officers 9 a.m.-6 p.m. April 23-25 and 8-11 a.m. April 26 in the Free Speech area outside the Student Center on South Campus. April 24 TR Campus will host the Student Awards Ceremony 4:30-6 p.m. in the Riverfront Café. April 24 NW humanities students will present the Engaging Differences Diversity Conference 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a second session 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. in the Michael Saenz Conference Center (WACB 1123). The conference will explain the importance of inclusion and diversity as well as ways to embrace differences in life. April 24 The SE speech department will hold a speech contest with the theme “Technology: Is It Hurting Or Helping Us?” 1-2:20 p.m. in the North Ballroom. The department will distribute $500 worth of awards, including a special award if the speech topic relates to the environment. April 24 NE Campus will host the Van Parker Student Research Symposium 6-8 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615A). Janet Zadina, an educational neuroscientist and author, is the featured speaker. Students nominated by their instructors will present their research projects.

April 24-May 29 A six-week diabetes educational program will be held 5-8 p.m. every Thursday in SFOF 1743A on South Campus. The event is free, but registration is required and open only to the first 16 registrants. April 25 Journalist Norma Martin will discuss her career and the meaning of leadership 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Action Suite on TR Campus. April 26 TREE, the TR Campus Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender club, will host the 2nd Chance Prom 7-11 p.m. on TRE Campus. Tickets cost $10 for individuals and $15 for couples. The event also will include a special tribute to the recently deceased art adjunct Nona Appel.

May 10 TCC’s annual graduation ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center across from the Water Gardens. The ceremony includes graduates from summer 2013, fall 2013 and spring 2014. Parking is not free.
